Training Tools

At Sky Soldier Dog Training, we believe in equipping our clients with the best tools to ensure their dog’s training success. Below is an overview of the tools we use, their purposes, and how they contribute to building a well-behaved companion.

Flat Collar

Purpose: Everyday use and identification.
Flat collars are a basic tool for securing ID tags and connecting your dog to a leash. While they’re not necessarily designed for training correction, they are an essential tool for day-to-day use and maintaining control.

Elastic or Fabric Leash

Purpose: Gentle control and guidance.
Elastic or fabric leashes provide flexibility and comfort during training sessions. These leashes allow for controlled movements while offering some give to reduce pressure on both the dog and handler during corrections or directional changes. These leashes are also significantly safer than their retractable counter part, which are not recommended nor permitted during training for safety reasons.

Raised Platform (Climb/Place)

Purpose: Training focus and impulse control.
A raised platform, such as a climb or place command board, is a cornerstone of impulse control training. By providing a defined space for your dog, this tool teaches focus, calm behavior, and the ability to settle in any environment.

Treats

Purpose: Positive reinforcement.
Treats are an essential component of positive reinforcement training. High-value treats motivate your dog and reinforce desired behaviors, making learning a fun and rewarding experience for your pup. We recommend using healthy, bite-sized options that your dog loves.

Educator E-Collar (case by case)

Purpose: Advanced off-leash training and communication.
The Educator E-Collar is a highly effective tool for off-leash obedience and reliable communication at a distance. With customizable stimulation levels, it ensures your dog receives clear feedback while prioritizing their comfort and safety. At Sky Soldier Dog Training, we teach you how to use this tool humanely and effectively. This tool is recommended on a case by case basis and generally not for dogs younger than 6 months.

Herm Sprenger Prong Collar (case by case)

Purpose: Structured guidance and behavior correction.
The Herm Sprenger prong collar provides even pressure around your dog’s neck, mimicking natural canine communication. This tool is excellent for addressing pulling and other on-leash behaviors, offering precise corrections that are safe and humane when used properly.

Why Training Tools Matter
